A fun lesson for students is a fun lesson for me
My learnings...
First official week of school. The new orientation week while having hiccups, I believe sets the right tone. It helps in class bonding and helping students to understand there is more to life than just studying. Interestingly, I actually had quite a fair bit of success with my first lessons, and I am excited to share about my experience in this fun but admin-loaded week.
1) Morning exercise routine
Wake up at 5 am, procrastinate till 5.15 am. Brush teeth, 30 push up, 1 min 30 sec plank, 1 min side plank (each side), 1 min squats, all while listening to Ali Abdaal. This is my short workout routine that really gets my day going. Active body, active mind :) try it out if you need an energy boost.
2) Learning to delegate and assign tasks
Finally learnt to communicate with many other colleagues to assign roles and get rid of my mess on the table. People are more than likely to help! So, just ask if it makes things more efficient for you at little effort to them. Just be happy to help when they ask you to next time!
3) Fun lesson with Sec 1s
Had a NOS activity (Fit an X in the tangram) with my Sec 1s. Had so much fun, reminding me the joy of learning. It was also pleasantly surprising that one of the group thought out of the box to solve my puzzle but one of the group mate had to go cheat and look at other group's progress. Brought it out as a teachable moment. Sometimes, we are smarter than we think, and there is no need to do unethical things like copying other people's work and taking credit for it.
It was a better start to the week than I had imagine. Unfortunately someone close to me passed this week, so it has not been easy. But even in the final moments, she taught me something that I have never experienced before. SO, thank you...
Take the effort to plan an engaging lesson. The fun will rub off to you and make the lesson enjoyable for you and the kids.
This coming week will be a mentally tough one, but I believe that we can pull through it!
